Nanotechnology

The business area of NANO-X GmbH is chemical nanotechnology – a process with which materials, such as coatings or 3-D objects, can be developed from minute nano components of just millionths of a millimetre in size. By varying the composition, shape, size or character of the surface, these nano particles can be shaped again and again like small building blocks, resulting in unprecedented scope for material design.
Expressed in simplified terms, one could say: nanotechnology is the controlled production of materials or components with dimensions in an atomic or molecular size range (0.1 -100 nm 1nm = 10-9 m).

This new technology has been modelled on nature which offers illustrative objects ranging from the most simple of precious stones, protective surfaces of plants and beetles to complex biological systems, such as the replication of the genetic make-up of mankind. We are still a long way from reconstructing such self-orientating or self-reproducing systems in our research. However, even at this point in time, the developments in the field of modern nanotechnology provide for amazing success stories, such as the possibility of reconstructing surface structures for industrial materials that are demonstrated to us in nature. This leads to added value from an economic point of view and benefits for the general public in the areas of application of mobility, communication, health, the environment and energy.
